Forbát, Fred

Born Alfred Füchsl in Pécs in 1887. Through Magyarization the name was changed to Fred Forbát. Studied architecture in Budapest from 1914. From 1920 to 1922, he worked in Walter Gropius’ studio and received a teaching position at the Weimar Bauhaus. From 1923 Work for various construction projects . From 1925, three years as chief architect for the AHAG-Sommerfeld Group in Berlin. Independent architect from 1928 to 1932. Worked for urban planning in Moscow from 1932 to 1933. The German National Socialists revoked Forbát’s German citizenship and banned him from using the professional title “architect”. Return to Pécs in 1933. He was also banned from working in Hungary in 1938 because of his Jewish origins. 1938 Emigration to Sweden. Forbát is considered an important representative of New Building.
