Rudolf Fraenkel’s original plan was for a housing estate with 400 flats, shops and a large garage. Even before construction began the plan was altered to include 2 to 5 room flats.
The six-storey block has a convex and concave curved corner facing the town park. Loggias in groups of two and their windows underline the horizontality of the estate. The windows were originally varnished with a wooden colouring so that the loggias’ function as a shade-giver was effectively underlined. The stairwells are arranged in an offset manner. Thus, each other entrance door is crowned by a vertical row of windows.
The modern large garage in the courtyard could take up to 200 vehicles and also had a petrol station, a car wash facility and a repair shop. This reflects the farsightedness of the building’s owner.
